KOCHI: The price of non-domestic cooking gas increased on the first day of the new financial year. The price has been hiked by Rs 256 per commercial cylinder. There is no change in the price of domestic cylinders and the price of CNG in the state has also gone up. The price of CNG is Rs 8 per kg. In Kochi, the revised price is Rs 80. In other districts it will be up to Rs 83. Along with this, toll rates, registration fees and stamp duty will be increased from today. The toll rate on various roads has been increased by 10 per cent.
Meanwhile, the prices of more than 800 drugs, including paracetamol, have risen. The price of essential medicines including paracetamol, antibiotics, vitamin-mineral tablets and medicines for diabetes and heart disease, will go up.
The various rate hikes announced by the government in the budget will also come into effect today. The land tax will double. There will be a 10 per cent increase in the fair value of goods. The registration fee and stamp duty will increase accordingly. The green tax for new vehicles will also come into effect today. It is a severe blow to the people who are suffering from the increase in fuel and cooking gas prices.
