Heavy rains likely today, yellow alert in five states, crop damage in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The meteorological department has warned of heavy rains in the state on Thursday as well. Isolated thundershowers are likely to continue in five districts. Yellow alert has been declared in districts namely Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Malappuram. Fishing is banned as winds with a speed of 40-50 kilometre per hour are likely.

The current rainfall is part of a cyclone formed above the southern coast of Tamil Nadu. As per the warning, rains may continue in the coming days too. Heavy thundershowers were reported in many places including Thiruvananthapuram, on Wednesday. According to primary conclusion, there has been a crop damage of more than Rs 1 crore in the capital district alone.
