State will receive heavy thundershowers till Saturday; must pay attention to these warnings

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has forecast strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph and isolated thundershowers at isolated places in the state till May 7. In case of any notice of power lines and posts falling due to wind and rain, it should be reported to KSEB Control Room number 1912 or District Disaster Management Authority Control Room number 1077. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued a precautionary measure against thunderstorms between 2 pm and 10 pm.

Strong winds can cause trees to be uprooted and branches to break off. Do not stand under trees during wind or rain for any reason. Do not park vehicles under trees. Branches of trees in dangerous condition in the backyard should be cut down. If trees in dangerous condition are noticed in public places, then the concerned local bodies should be informed.

Newspaper and milk suppliers and those who go to work early in the morning should make sure that the power line does not break into water bodies. If an accident is suspected, it should be reported to the control room and should proceed only after making sure there is no danger. Avoid standing in open areas if you notice any signs of lightning. Windows and doors should be closed. The electrical connection of the appliances should be disconnected. Proximity to electrical equipments should be avoided.

It is dangerous to sit on the terrace, high altitude places or on a tree branch during thunderstorms. Avoid flying kites.

Do not go on the terrace or yard to pick up clothes during thunderstorms. Children should not be allowed to play in the open air or on the terrace from 2pm to 10pm.
