No obscene behaviour should be there, those with criminal background should be excluded from set; govt’s draft recommendations in Hema committee report are as follows

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The draft recommendations prepared by the cultural department on the basis of the Hema committee report are out. The report mainly points out recommendations such as not to hire drivers with criminal backgrounds, restrict auditions via social media and ensure equal pay.

The draft recommendation also calls for a clear contract in the film industry, prohibition of alcohol and drugs in workplace, safe accommodation and travel arrangements for women. The recommendations also state that there should be no obscene behaviour towards women in film sets.

The meeting was held under the leadership of Cultural Minister Saji Cherian in Thiruvananthapuram. All the organizations in the film industry, including AMMA, MACTA, FEFKA, WCC, Film Chamber and the Producers’ association, were invited.

Actress namely Padmapriya and Beena Paul attended the meeting from the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) while, Edavela Babu, Siddique and Maniyan Pilla Raju participated on behalf of AMMA. The Hema committee, which was appointed by the government to study the issues in the film industry, had submitted its report two years before.

The government’s draft recommendations have been prepared after considering the report submitted by the commission comprising of Justice K Hema, actor Sharada and former IAS officer K B Valsala Kumari. The government was not ready to release the report despite a request from the Women's Commission.
