Saviour in flood, arrested in morality case; extorted money by threat

TIRUR: Puraikkal Jaisal (37) of Parappanangadi Avil Beach, who became a hero after rescuing people in the floods, has been arrested in an extortion case. The incident in connection with the case took place on April 15, 2021.

Jaisal and another man had allegedly extorted money from a young man and his female friend who were sitting in a car near Tanur beach. It is alleged that they captured the pictures of the duo in the car, threatened them and tried to extort Rs 1 lakh from them. Following which, the youth’s friend had sent Jaisal Rs 5,000 via Google Pay. However, Jaisal had then responded that the complaint was fake.

Soon after Tanur police registered the case, Jaisal filed anticipatory bail petitions in the district court and the high court, but were rejected. Following which, he went absconding in various districts.
