Steps should be taken to prevent illegal use of government emblem and boards in vehicles: High Court

kk

KOCHI: The High Court directed that steps be taken to prevent the illegal use of government emblems, boards and flags on vehicles and to ensure that lights and number plates are legally installed. The order was issued by Justice Anil K Narendran in a petition seeking the issuance of a school vehicle permit for a vehicle owned by Sabari PTB Memorial Higher Secondary School in Palakkad.

The court ruled that even government vehicles do not comply with the safety requirements under the Motor Vehicles Act. The DGP and the Home Department had issued a circular banning sun film and window curtains on government and police vehicles. The single bench directed that strict action be taken in this regard. For this, a copy of the High Court order should be given to the DGP and the Home Department. Those who do not comply with the safety guidelines should have their licenses confiscated and disqualified. The single bench said that police officers and government-appointed officials could take action in this regard.
