KOZHIKODE: Four corporation employees were suspended in connection with the incident for issuing number to an illegally constructed building, which was proposed to be demolished. Action was taken against Kozhikode corporation office superintendent, revenue inspector, Beypore zonal superintendent and a revenue officer. An investigation conducted by the corporation found that the employees had committed serious law violations.

The local bodies have a special software for providing building numbers. Each official has a separate user ID and a password. The number was given by logging in, from outside the office, using the IDs. The building, which had been constructed without adhering to previous directions, was proposed to be demolished. However, a license application was submitted once again after renovating the building. As many as four buildings that had been proposed to be demolished, including this one, were numbered illegally. On receiving the numbers, taxes were also paid. The corporation authorities have handed over the details of the investigation to the cyber police.
