Prophet comment row: Lookout notice against Nupur Sharma, action following SC’s criticism

KOLKATA: A day after the Supreme Court’s scathing observation, the Kolkata police have issued a lookout notice against Nupur Sharma over her derogatory remarks against the Prophet. Last day, the Supreme Court had slammed Sharma and held her responsible for whatever communal incidents happening across the country, including the Udaipur murder. The court also stated that the arrest was delayed due to her influence. However, the court excluded the criticisms in its order rejecting Nupur Sharma’s plea seeking to transfer cases against her in various states to Delhi.

The court’s order dismissing the plea only mentions to seek other legal options in the regard. Meantime, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi demanded that Nupur Sharma must be immediately arrested. We demand to Prime Minister Modi that Nupur Sharma must be arrested, and let the law take its own course. Why is BJP protecting her?, he asked. Meanwhile, the Congress has asked, why is the government, which had taken immediate action in the Gujarat riots case, hesitating to act now.
