VADAKARA: All the policemen in the Vadakara police station have been transferred in connection with the custodial death of a youth, last week. The action has been taken as per the chief minister’s directive. Two policemen were suspended earlier. The crime branch is in-charge of the investigation into the custodial death. A total of 28 cops have been transferred. The chief minister had directed the transfer of 56 officers, including substitutes.

According to the findings of North Zone Inspector General, there was serious failure on the part of the police officials in providing first aid to Sajeevan. Although, he told the police about his chest pain several times, they did not take him seriously. Those who tried to help him were also turned away. The report states that all these are grave faults.

Vadakara native Sajeevan (42) and his two friends were taken into custody on Thursday night at around 11:30 pm, over a vehicle accident case. Their car had collided with another car leading to a verbal dispute. Following which, the police arrived at the spot and took Sajeevan’s car to the station. It was Sajeevan’s friend who drove the car during the accident. However, according to those who were with Sajeevan, he was brutally beaten up by sub inspector Nijesh.
