NEW DELHI: Several Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, were detained by the Delhi police on Friday, when they were protesting outside the parliament against unemployment and price hike. They were detained forcibly by the police. Numerous MPs who took part in the protest, including Shashi Tharoor, were taken into custody.

The protest was led by Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The MPs were taken into custody while they began protesting at Vijay Chowk. Rahul Gandhi said that they were trying to march to the Rashtrapati Bhavan peacefully. “We are not afraid”, he said.

Priyanka Gandhi, who crossed police barricades at the AICC headquarters, was also taken into custody. Tensions are high in the AICC headquarters premises.

Earlier, the police had taken stringent measures to stop the protests. As soon as the Congress activists marched towards the headquarters, the Delhi police and central forces were deployed in the area.
