NEW DELHI: Naik Devendra Pratap Singh of Rashtriya Rifles, BSF Sub-Inspector Paotinsat Guite (posthumously) and Constable Sudip Sarkar (posthumously) were awarded Kirti Chakra for displaying bravery while fighting for the motherland. 13 soldiers were awarded Shaurya Chakra. Two of them have been honoured posthumously.
As many as 83 soldiers from the Army, one from the Navy and seven from the Air Force, including Malayali Captain Srivalsan K of the Assam Rifles, have been awarded the Sena medal for gallantry. Five people received the medal posthumously.
Devendra Pratap Singh has been awarded Kirti Chakra for his brave fight against four deadly terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. The terrorists, who were hiding in a house, had opened fire on the soldiers, including Devendra Singh. Unfazed by the sudden attack, Devendra Singh fought back with extraordinary courage and managed to drive the terrorists out of the house and kill two of them. Paotinsat Guite, a native of Kangpokpi, was martyred in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan Army. Sudip Kumar Sarkar, a native of Tripura, succumbed to his injuries in the terrorist attack in Kupwara, Kashmir.
