KOZHIKODE: Two children were nabbed in the incident of hurling firecrackers at the Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram Maveli Express, last day. The crackers exploded near the Vellayil station, while Union Minister V Muraleedharan and Minister P A Muhammad Rias were about to board a train from Kozhikode railway station.

The children were nabbed when they came back again with firecrackers to the station, while an investigation was underway into the incident. Later, they were sent away with their parents by the railway security force. The incident took place at around 1:32 am on Sunday. The cracker, which went towards the general coach, hit the leg of a passenger, fell out and exploded. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) soon arrived at the Vellayil station and examined the tracks and nearby areas. Following which, the area was also inspected by a dog squad. However, no explosives were found. Crackers have been recovered from the children.
