Mullaperiyar Supervisory committee meeting: Tamil Nadu seeks permission to cut trees; Kerala demands rule curve

NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu has asked for immediate permission to cut 15 trees to strengthen the baby dam in Mullaperiyar in the Supervisory committee meeting. TN has also demanded cooperation from Kerala to strengthen Mullaperiyar dam in the committee.

The representatives of Kerala stated in the meeting that they need the permission of the Forest department to cut trees. Gulshan Raj, Chairman of the Supervisory committee, directed the representatives of Kerala to seek permission. The Supervisory committee is likely to visit the dam next month. Kerala had written to the committee when the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam rose during the last monsoon season. The committee met in Delhi to discuss this letter.

Water Resources Department Secretary Pranab Jyotinath, Chief Engineer Alex Varghese and Nodal Officer P G Vijayakumar represented Kerala.
