NEW DELHI: An amount of Rs one crore was duped from vaccine-maker Serum Institute of India (SII). The fraudster demanded money via WhatsApp posing as the company’s chief executive officer Adar Poonawalla. The police have registered a case.
Satish Deshpande, the director of SII, received a WhatsApp message from the fraudster posing as Poonawalla and demanded to transfer Rs one core to the account. The details of the account were mentioned in the message.
The officials of the company transferred Rs 1,01,01,554 following the message. Poonawalla came to know about it later. He later lodged a complaint with the police. Police said they are investigating the incident.
