THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The PWD has moved forward with introducing designer roads which can last for more time period. The PWD project will give priority to those roads which get broken frequently.
The project involves identifying the reason behind the roads’ damage and fixing it. This project follows the example of road manufacturing of countries like Netherlands, Bangladesh, etc. where flooding is acute.
First the experts will inspect the roads that are damaged due to heavy rains and find out the reasons behind it. The manufacturing method will be decided only after studying the rainfall pattern, strong flow of water, waterlogging, the shape of the land, vehicle density etc..
The manufacturing method will be done by a team from Kerala Highway Research Institute. The design section of the PWD will also participate in it.
The decision to adopt foreign road manufacturing methods was taken after many suggestions rose in a Workshop conducted in Mascot Hotel. The Director of the Highway Research Institute will submit a report to the government through PWD within a month.
