KANNUR: A massive crowd lined the roads from Mattannur airport to Thalassery Town Hall to offer their final respects to the popular leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Women, children, and the elderly thronged the roads and at the fourteen stops where his body was kept for the people to offer homage.
The final journey of Kodiyeri evoked the memory of Nayanar’s funeral procession, which also attracted thousands waiting to take a glimpse of the leader. Without a call, hundreds of vehicles accompanied the ambulance bearing the mortal remains of Kodiyeri. There was a huge line of motorcycles with black flags. Most of the vehicles carried the picture of Kodiyeri on the front and back.
Many mourned after seeing the still face of their beloved leader. These sights were proof of how much the people of Kannur loved Kodiyeri who led the party during difficult times. The procession first stopped at Mattannur for public viewing. On the way to Thalassery, the procession stopped at Nellunni, Uruvechal, Neerveli, Moonam Peedika, Thokilangadi, Koothuparambu, Pookadu, Kotayampoyil, Aram Mile, Vettumel, Kathirur, Ponniyam Srambi, and Chunkam.
