NEW DELHI: CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said that the Governor has no authority to recall the Vice Chancellors of the University. These steps by the Governor target Kerala’s secular, democratic and scientific higher education system to facilitate the promotion of the Hindutva ideological agenda. The manner in which he demanded the resignation of various Vice Chancellors of the universities in Kerala and later the resignation of the state Finance Minister have no sanction of the Indian Constitution, said Yechury. He was responding to the conflict between the Kerala Governor and the government.
Yechury demanded that all the secular democratic parties should come forward against the BJP's move to infiltrate the universities and implement Hindutva policies in the higher education sector. There are moves to topple democratically elected governments and undermine federalism in the country. He said that people should react against this. Yechury also demanded that a judicial inquiry be announced in the incident of bridge collapse in Gujarat.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has demanded the resignation of the vice chancellors of all the nine universities of the state citing Supreme court order that dismissed Technical university VC. He also demanded resignation of Finance minister KN Balagopal. Following this, the matter was discussed in the Central Committee of CPM and severe criticism was raised against the Governor.
