THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The much-awaited Kazhakoottam elevated highway in Thiruvananthapuram has been opened temporarily. The elevated highway was opened to the public as work on the service roads is progressing. The elevated highway will be closed again soon after the work on the service roads gets completed.
The ongoing tarring of the service roads will be completed in the coming days. Following this, the elevated highway will be closed again. The safety auditing of the elevated highway is in progress. It will be reopened after completing all works and inspections. The 2.71 km long elevated highway, constructed by the National Highways Authority at a cost of Rs 200 crore, is a part of the Kazhakootam-Mukkola reach of National Highway 66.
