ATTAPPADI: Congress leader, Ramesh Chennithala, said that it is shameful to Kerala that a pregnant tribal woman was carried on a cloth to the hospital at Attappadi. He asked the government to take strict action against those who are responsible.

Ramesh Chennithala said that the lady escaped because of her luck. He added that he had visited the area as part of Gandhi Gram project and tried to bring the plight of the people before the government. He and the MLA submitted a petition for that too. But there was no positive result. That is the reason for the present situation, said the former opposition leader.

Though the government is saying that they are spending crores of rupees for the tribal people’s development the money is not being used completely for their welfare. At least now the government must open their eyes to their situation and also take strict actions against those responsible.

A tribal lady Murugan was carried from her house at Kadukamon hamlet for 3 kms at midnight. As her delivery date was due, she began to have pain. Though the family called an ambulance, it could not reach there due to the broken roads.

As elephants roam the area at night, private vehicles were also not available. As the roads are broken the ambulance could reach at a place called Anavai, which is 3 kms from her house. Her family members carried her for three kilometers till Anavai. She gave birth only after reaching the hospital.
