THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Venjaramoodu police took into custody Divya Nair, the main intermediary in the titanium job fraud case. Divya, the first accused in the case, was taken into custody from her house near Muthumariamman Kovil, Palayam Jacob Junction, Thiruvananthapuram. The second accused, her husband Rajesh is absconding.
The police got a list of 29 people in a search at her house. The preliminary assessment of the police is that Rs one crore eighty-five lakhs were taken from them. The police will examine whether more people have been duped.
The Cantonment Police registered a case against a five-member team including Sasikumaran Thampy, who was the legal manager of Titanium and the assistant general manager at the time of the interview, on the complaint that they had extorted money by offering a job and conducting a fake interview. The information coming out is that a search will be conducted at the house of Thampy and then will take him into custody.
A woman from East Fort lodged a complaint saying that Rs 10 lakh was extorted from her. The scam offered a salary of Rs 75,000 per month for the post of assistant chemist. The woman approached the police when she did not get the job despite paying the money.
A list of twenty-nine people was found written in the notebook during the subsequent inspection. The initial information received by the police is that the fraud has been going on since 2018. The defendants would post vacancies in titanium on various Facebook groups. Candidates will reply in inbox and then will ask for money.
The reason behind the fraud is that the appointment in Titanium has not yet been left to the PSC. The complainant paid the money in the presence of her husband Rajesh at Divya's house in Palayam. The people were taken to Titanium for the interview in the vehicle of another accused Shyamlal. Shashi Kumaran Thampy conducted the interview in Titanium. They promised them to get the appointment letter within 15 days.
