TRIVANDRUM: Joy Antony, the sole accused in the Anad Sunitha murder case gets life imprisonment. The district sessions court judge K Vishnu produced the judgment that also carries a fine of Rs 60000. The bone-chilling murder happened way back in 2013 Anad, when Joy Antony knocked down his wife Sunitha in front of his two children. Later he set ablaze his unconscious wife and charred her to death. Her burned corpse was cut into three and was disposed of in the nearby septic tank.

The prosecution demanded the death penalty for the convict but the court never took it. "A woman with high expectations of a prosperous living has been betrayed by her husband in the most gruesome way possible", the prosecution claimed.

"This inhumane murder takes away all merit for the convict to live again with others in the society. The murder unfurled in front of two children, who are traumatized ever since watching their mother for the last. Capital punishment is the only merit the convict deserves", decried government pleader M Salahudeen.

After 2013, the two children were taken by an orphanage. After some years, the children were adopted by a family in Alappuzha. An emotional scene was staged inside the court as the two children came to give witness statements against their father. Initially, the children hesitated to enter the court in Joy’s presence. The court got involved and ordered Joy outside of the court while the children gave the statements.
