Kerala HC to pronounce verdict on former Lakshadweep MP’s appeal today

ss

KOCHI: The High Court will pronounce its verdict today in the appeal filed by the accused including former Lakshadweep MP Mohammad Faizal demanding the suspension of the 10-year prison sentence awarded by the trial court in the attempted murder case. The hearing of the case has been completed. The appeal was heard by a bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas.

The Kavarathi sessions court sentenced ten years in prison and a fine of Rs 1 lakh to Mohammad Faizal, Sayid Muhammad Nurul Amin, Muhammad Hussain Thangal and Muhammad Basheer for the attempted murder of former Union Minister PM Sayeed son-in-law Mohammad Faizal. Then they were arrested and shifted to Kannur Central Jail.

Deputy solicitor general S Manu argued that there is no contradiction in the testimonies of the witnesses and the involvement of accused is evident from this.

CPM state secretary MV Govindan said that the issuance of notification regarding by-election just five days after disqualifying Lakshadweep MP is unusual.
