THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed to take strict action to revoke the licenses of those driving under the influence of drugs. In a high-level meeting related to road safety, the Chief Minister said that the facility of special vehicles prepared to detect drug use should be utilized for this purpose. Highway patrol should be strengthened. Police presence should be ensured at hot spots.

The CM directed the police and the motor vehicle department to conduct joint inspections at regular intervals. Traffic engineering designs should be developed with road safety in mind. Local bodies should install traffic lights. It has been directed to include road safety in the higher secondary syllabus. According to the CM, the coordinated intervention of departments is required to control the overloading of goods vehicles. NATPAC should make available the latest real-time accident data.

Steps should be taken if the Motor Vehicle Act needs to be amended to include new offences in the list of compoundable offences. Road safety campaign activities should be intensified. The guidelines prepared for school children's recreational trips should be strictly followed.

Other directions

Cyber ​​patrolling should be strengthened to prevent bike stunts. The license of repeat offenders should be revoked. Speed ​​governor inspections should be strengthened.
