AI traffic cameras ready for work; hefty fines for violating traffic rules

THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: The artificial intelligence cameras placed to capture vehicles violating traffic laws will soon get to work. The council of ministers will decide the date of implementation. A total of 726 AI-incorporated cameras are placed across the nooks and corners of the city. The server issue that was delaying the implementation of the scheme has been cleared, MVD informed the road and transportation ministry. This scheme will see hefty fines placed on people breaching the traffic laws in the city. Due to the sensitivity of the scheme, the implementation will be only possible after the assent of ministers. The cost of implementation is Rs 236 crores. 14 control rooms will operate in every district. Top officials from RTO, MVA, and additional staff to print challan will be housed in every control room.

The seat belt and helmet should be made permanent. Vehicles without permits and insurance can also be easily tracked through these AI cameras.
