MUMBAI: Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has offered advice to India's new Test captain Shubman Gill. Gill will be leading the Indian team in the upcoming Test series against England, with Rishabh Pant serving as the vice-captain. Gavaskar advised that Gill should always communicate with his teammates and be able to handle all forms of pressure.
Following Rohit Sharma's retirement, the BCCI chose Gill as captain, overlooking Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul. Gavaskar said that Gill's captaincy could potentially impact the careers of many players, and therefore, he needs to be more attentive and considerate in how he interacts with team members.
"There is always pressure on any player chosen as the captain of India. There’s a big difference between being a team member and being the captain. When you are a team member, you generally just interact with players close to you. But as a captain, you must behave in a way that other players in the team respect you. A captain's behaviour is more important than his individual performances," Gavaskar said.
