LONDON: The 27-year trophy-less drought ended for Proteas after Tema Bavumba-led team defeated defending champions Australia in the ICC World Test championship finals in Lords. South Africa defeated a dauntless Aussie side by five wickets to script history.
Chasing Australia's 282 runs, South Africa reached the target in 83.4 overs. It was South African batsman Aiden Kyle Markram’s heroics that paved the way for a historic victory that the Proteas are likely to celebrate for ages to come.
Opener Aiden Markram's century (136 off 207 balls) and skipper Bavuma's solid support (66) helped South Africa achieve a historic feat. The duo's 137-run partnership laid the foundation for South Africa's victory. Bavuma was dismissed when the score reached 217 today. Starc took three wickets for 66 runs for the Aussies.
