BHUBANESWAR: Kerala Blasters have been knocked out of the Super Cup. In the quarterfinals, they suffered a 1-2 defeat against a strong Mohun Bagan side. Former Blasters player and Malayali, Sahal Abdul Samad, along with Suhail Ahmad Bhat, scored the goals for Bagan. Kerala Blasters' consolation goal came from Sreekuttan during injury time.
In the 22nd minute of the match, Salahuddin delivered a precise cross to Sahal. As the Blasters' defence stood watching, Sahal beat Sachin Suresh and found the back of the net. At halftime, Bagan led by one goal. Just six minutes into the second half, in the 51st minute, Suhail Ahmad scored again.
Though Kerala had a few good moves in between, none of them resulted in goals. A lack of luck also saw several scoring opportunities go begging.
Sreekuttan scored the lone goal for the Blasters in the final minutes. He capitalised on a ball played into the box by Jimenez and found the target with precision. The Blasters started off with some promising moves, creating several early chances, but failed to convert. Ultimately, they fought hard but fell short against Bagan.
