MALAPPURAM: Allegations of election code violations were made while clashes took place in some places, as voting entered the seventh hour in the state. In Kasaragod, a UDF chief agent entered a booth wearing a virtual eyeglass, while in Malappuram, a League worker was beaten up over a Facebook post.

Chief Agent Advocate BM Jamal was taken into custody by the election squad after he arrived inside the booth with spy glasses. Jamal was taken into custody from booth number 144 of the Bekal Islamia LP School. It is not clear whether the glasses were used to leak voting secrets or for some other purpose. His glasses were seized by the authorities. Jamal was later released, it is reported.

Meanwhile, a Muslim League activist was brutally beaten up in Mankada, Malappuram. The victim was Shabir, a native of Tirurkkad. The police registered a case against LDF candidate Kunnath Mohammed's driver, Iqbal, and his friend Ashiq.

The FIR states that the attack was to settle scores over a demeaning Facebook post Shabir made against candidate Kunnath Mohammed. The injured Shabir has been admitted to a private hospital in Perinthalmanna.
