WASHINGTON DC: A man has been charged with murder in connection with the disappearance of his wife in the US. Nepal native Mamta Kafle Bhatt (28) has been missing for the last five months. The police have concluded that Mamta's husband, Naresh Bhatt (37), murdered her and hid or destroyed her body.
Mamta was last seen on July 29. A missing case was reported on August 5 after she failed to report for work. When authorities investigated the matter, they found that she was missing. Upon questioning, Naresh told the police that he and Mamta were getting a divorce.
Investigations revealed that Naresh had made suspicious online searches, including 'How long does it take to get married after spouse dies', 'What happens to debts when the spouse dies' and 'What happens if spouse goes missing in Virginia'. Police also found evidence of Naresh purchasing three knives and cleaning supplies from a local Walmart.
The police also found the DNA evidence of Mamta's blood at Naresh's residence. Naresh's delay in reporting his wife's missing case also raised suspicions with the police. Naresh was arrested on August 22 in connection with Mamta's disappearance. Although he filed for bail in September, it was denied. Mamta's body has not been found yet. Meanwhile, Naresh's lawyer claims that Mamta is not dead and is alive.
