TEHRAN: Reports from Tehran confirm that another vessel has been targeted in the Strait of Hormuz, occurring shortly after United States President Donald Trump announced an indefinite extension of the ceasefire with Iran. The attack took place approximately eight nautical miles off the Iranian coast, where the ship was forced to a halt after being fired upon. Although the vessel sustained damage to its bridge and navigation centre, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre confirms that the crew is safe and no casualties have been reported.

This incident follows an earlier report from the British military detailing damage to a separate vessel during an initial wave of strikes. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed responsibility for the assault on the container ship, which occurred around 7:55 AM today without prior warning. Despite President Trump extending the truce at the request of mediators to allow for a unified proposal from Tehran, the Iranian government has yet to provide a formal diplomatic response to the extension, and the Revolutionary Guard has instead vowed to deliver crushing blows to regional assets.

The current escalation is a direct retaliation for the United States’ seizure of the Iranian cargo ship 'Touska' last week. That vessel was disabled and boarded by U.S. Marines after it allegedly attempted to breach a naval blockade. Iran has officially condemned the seizure as armed piracy and is demanding the immediate and complete lifting of all sanctions. However, President Trump maintained his hardline stance yesterday, reiterating that the economic blockade will persist until Iran signs a final agreement and emphasising that the United States will never permit the development of Iranian nuclear weapons. He further warned that full-scale military action would resume if a comprehensive deal is not reached.
