ISLAMABAD: Reports say Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has been detained by Pakistani authorities amid the ongoing conflict with India. He has been shifted to an unknown location. There are hints of having an internal revolt in the Pakistani army.
Unconfirmed reports said Munir was detained on charges of starting the conflict with India and leading Pakistan to disaster for personal gains.
It is reported that Asim Munir has been charged with treason and will face trial in a military court. There are also reports that General Zahir Shamshad Mirza has taken over as the army chief replacing Munir.
Asim Munir referred to Kashmir as Pakistan’s jugular vein had sparked a controversy. Asim Munir made the controversial remark at an event called Overseas Pakistanis Convention held in Islamabad. General Asim Munir also asked the audience to tell the story of Pakistan to children. India had responded to this.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Pakistan's only connection with Kashmir is through its illegal occupation of the territory and that it should vacate it. Kashmir is an integral part of India. How can a foreign country say that it is like a jugular vein in their neck, Foreign Ministry spokesperson had asked.
