TEHRAN: Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has been seriously injured in an attack, confirmed senior Iranian officials. Four senior Iranian officials told New York Times that he has undergone three surgeries on one leg and is preparing to have a prosthetic leg.
He underwent surgery on one hand. Doctors said it would gradually return to normal. As he suffered severe burns on his face and lips, it makes it difficult for him to speak. They also said that doctors have suggested that he may need a plastic surgery.
Mojtaba has not appeared in public since taking office as Iran's supreme leader. He does not like to let others know that he is ill. Handwritten letters are sealed in envelopes and delivered to his hideout by car or bike. The New York Times reports that even high-ranking government officials do not visit Mojtaba for fear of being discovered and killed by Israel.
Reports indicate that the military presently makes decisions in Iran. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders make decisions on war, diplomacy, and national security. Mojtaba is the director of the board. Reports also point that although he is the one who signs the orders, the military is presently the one who issues and controls them.
