WASHINGTON: Tensions between Iran and the United States are expected to escalate further over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The concern comes after Iran reportedly attacked three ships and seized two vessels in Hormuz. Following the incident, Donald Trump issued a strong warning.
Trump said he has ordered action against any boats creating obstacles in the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on the Truth Social platform, he stated that the US Navy has been instructed to "shoot and kill" any boats putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. He also said that the order specifically targets Iranian naval boats operating in the region. According to Trump, 159 Iranian vessels have already been sunk. He also said that orders have been issued to increase mine-clearing operations in the strait by three times.
Trump claimed that the US has full control over the Strait of Hormuz and that no ship can enter or leave without the approval of the US Navy. He further stated that the Strait will remain closed until an agreement is reached with Iran.
