PANAJI: A tourist bus, carrying students from Kerala on a trip to Goa, has caught fire. Although the bus was completely destroyed in the fire, no casualties were reported. The students of Jaybees College, Mathamangalam, Kannur were in the bus at the time of the incident.
The bus caught fire by around 5:30 am at Banastarim in Old Goa. It is not yet clear how the fire started. Some people had informed the driver about fumes coming out from the engine. However, the driver ignored it and went ahead. But, as the bus got engulfed in flames, he immediately stopped the bus and vacated the passengers to safety.
Fire brigade soon reached the spot and doused the fire. Two fire units from Old Goa and Ponda were called in to put out of the fire. Sources suggest that the bus owner has suffered a loss of around Rs 40 lakh.
