The police have registered the arrest of the woman and she has been charged with murder. She gave birth this morning and has been admitted to the Ernakulam General Hospital.

City Police Commissioner S Shyamsunder said that the 23-year-old woman admitted that she had thrown the child down from the flat. He further said that her parents was unaware that their daughter was pregnant or had given birth or had thrown the baby down from the flat.

She gave birth in the toilet around 5 am. Three hours later, the baby, whose umbilical cord was not even cut, was wrapped in a parcel cover and thrown down from the flat. The commissioner said the woman could have thrown down the baby in a sudden panic. There is a wound on the baby's neck. Therefore, doubts remain whether the body was thrown down after killing which will be clear in the post-mortem, the police said.
