THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSEB has started region-wise electricity control measures in the state following the increase in electricity consumption due to extreme heat. Restrictions are imposed in high consumption areas. This will be between 7pm and 1am.
In the first phase, the restriction has been imposed in the areas under the Palakkad transmission circle. Mannarkkad, Alanallur, Koppam, Shornur, Ottapalam, Arangotura, Pattambi, Koottanad, Pathiripala, Kollangode, Chittoor, Vadakkancherry, Koduvayur, Nenmara and Olavakod substations are likely to experience intermitten restrictions. KSEB has appointed Chief Engineers to control power consumption in these areas.
Earlier, KSEB had issued guidelines to control power consumption. The operation of large industrial establishments should be reorganized from 10 pm to 2 am. Decorative lamps and billboards shouldn't be operated after 9 pm. AC temperature should be adjusted at 26 degrees or above in homes. KSEB will assess the situation in two days and report back to the government. KSEB also suggested that night pumping of water authority and for lift irrigation should be avoided.
