Empuraan makes history; total business hits Rs 325 crore; Mohanlal shares new poster

Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj and starring Mohanlal in the lead, has achieved a total business of Rs 325 crore. Actor Mohanlal himself announced this. Prithviraj has also shared new posters featuring Mohanlal, Gokulam Gopalan, Antony Perumbavoor and Murali Gopi. Empuraan is also the film that entered the Rs 200 crore club within five days of its release.

The film was the cause of huge controversies after its release. Following the controversies, 24 parts were edited from the film. The re-edited version, which was cut by 2.08 minutes, is now being shown in theatres. The film was re-certified by the censor board committee comprising Swaroopa Kartha, K Roshni Das, G M Mahesh, M M Manjushan, and T Nadeem Tufail.

The villain Bajrangi was renamed Baldev in the film. The word NIA was silenced. Scenes showing sexual assault against women and the dialogue about the color of the national flag were also changed. It was released in India and globally on March 27.

Apart from Tamil Nadu, the film was released by big companies at the pan-Indian level. While Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations distributed the film in Andhra and Telangana, Anil Thadani-led AA Films distributed the film in North India. The distribution partner in Karnataka is Hombale Films, a major Kannada film production and distribution company.

Released as the second part of the 2019 blockbuster film Lucifer, Empuraan is the second part of a film series that tells the story in three parts. The film, starring Mohanlal in the lead role, also stars Prithviraj, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jerome Flynn, Baiju, Saikumar, Andrea Tivadar, Abhimanyu Singh, Sania Iyyappan, Fazil, Sachin Khadkar, Naila Usha, Jiju John, Nandu, Murugan Martin, Sivaji Guruvayur, Manikuttan, Aneesh G Menon, Sivada, Alex O'Neill, Eriq Ebouaney, Karthikeya Dev, Michael Novikov, Kishore, Sukant, Behzad Khan, Nikhat Khan, Satyajit Sharma, Nayan Bhatt, Shubhangi, and Jaise Jose.
