His words
A new chapter in stage shows was being opened at the Aluva TASS Auditorium and the rehearsal camp for the comedy drama 'Avai Shanmukhan' was being held under the banner of Cochin Sagar. A wedding was conducted one morning at the Sree Krishnaswamy Temple, a short distance from the auditorium. Couldn’t understand anything. Was curious to know whose wedding was going on. Idukki Rajan Master (Kalabhavan Rajan Idukki) is getting ready. In my memory, he was getting ready early morning before 7 am. I asked him where he was going in the morning. You shouldn't tell anyone. Dileep's wedding is going on and it is a top secret. Only Abhi knows about it. We cooperated together. Since I came to know, I am going there. Only a few people will be there. Even the press is not aware of it. I was curious to know about the bride? At that time Master told me Manju Warrier, the heroine of Sallapam is the bride. I was shocked. Master walked away in a hurry. I was tired from rehearsing all night, so all this happened as soon as I got up. If I had asked him whether could accompany him, he will say yes. I will have to get ready and by then, the people who got married would have left the place.
Master came after the marriage and briefed me everything. There were only less then ten people. Nadirshah and some of Dileep’s close friends were there. Tied the nuptial knot at the temple. They left soon after the marriage. When I went there, press started coming. I felt disappointed for not going. ‘Oh, if I had known earlier, could have gone.’
A car came and stopped in front of Abhi’s house when everyone was getting ready for a programme. The bride and groom got out from the car. It was a moment of surprise and excitement. Spent some time there. We had tea and everything, and Dileepettan and Manjuchechi wished us well, and then left from there. Dailies started reporting the news of their marriage.
This is a photo taken at that moment. I am holding Dileepettan. I did not miss the opportunity to touch a movie star. That baby in the arms of our sound engineer Roymon Pala is Shane Nigam, the leading star of today and son of Abhi. Our darling Chanukuttan.
Got a photo by chance to share memories across time. They are not just stories; they are the signatures of realities. These are pictures that I got to record with evidence. Even if the resolution of the picture is less, this is enough to say about my filmy history.
