Annamalai whips himself, 48-day fast to remove DMK Govt from power

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai has whipped himself in protest against the sexual abuse of a girl on the Anna University campus. Annamalai 'punished' himself as a prelude to the start of a 48-day fast as part of the protest. Annamalai was protesting in front of his house wearing a green lungi. He will visit the six Arupadai Veedu (Lord Murugan’s six abodes) in Tamil Nadu.

Annamalai had announced the other day that he would not wear footwear until DMK was removed from power in Tamil Nadu. Following this, he whipped himself six times and the seventh was stopped by a supporter. A video of Annamalai first praying and then whipping himself has surfaced. BJP workers were standing around holding placards. As the whipping progressed, a worker can be seen running towards Annamalai, stopping him from the act and then hugging him.

A second-year undergraduate student was sexually abused on the Anna University campus at 8 pm on December 23. The girl's statement is that two men dragged her away and then abused her. The incident happened after thrashing brutally her male friend. The police have arrested one person in connection with the incident. The arrested is Gnanasekharan (37) of Kotturpuram. He is a roadside biryani vendor. There are other cases against him. The accused was arrested with the help of CCTV footage.
