Husband refuses to buy air conditioner; woman commits suicide

CHENNAI: A 23-year-old woman was found hanging following a dispute with her husband over buying an air conditioner. The deceased has been identified as Monica (23), a native of Pullarambakkam in Tiruvallur. According to police, she had been repeatedly asking her husband Akash to buy an AC due to the extreme heat. Akash works at a textile shop.

Police said the couple used to argue frequently over this issue. Another argument took place on Friday night. Akash told police that due to the heat, he, along with his brother and parents, slept on the terrace that night.

The next morning, when he went to the room, Monica was found hanging. He immediately informed the police. No suicide note has been recovered. Monica’s parents have alleged that there is something suspicious about her death. Based on this, the police have registered a case of unnatural death and started an investigation.

Akash and Monica had been in a relationship since their school days and got married two years ago. It was a love marriage, and Monica’s family had not supported it.
