HYDERABAD: Around 500 stray dogs were found dead in a week in Telangana. The death is due to poisoning. With this, allegations have been raised that the massacre was carried out to fulfill the promise made during the panchayat elections. Animal lovers allege that dogs were killed by injecting poison in Bhavanipet, Palwancha, Faridpet, Wadi, and Bandarameshwarapally in the Kamareddy district of Telangana. Animal protection activist Adulapuram Goutham has filed a complaint with the police in this regard.
The complaint also states that the dogs were killed in a planned manner, and the dog massacre was carried out on the instructions of the newly elected administrative committee in the panchayat. A complaint has been filed against six people and a case has been registered against four. The police have arrested a person named Kamareddy in the case of killing 200 dogs. No further details have been released.
The bodies of the buried dogs have been recovered for postmortem. An investigation has also been launched into the poison used to kill them. It was a local body election promise in December that the stray dog and monkey problem would be eradicated. Around 300 dogs were killed earlier this month. A case has been registered against nine people, including women panchayat members.
