NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that he does not require any special exemption under the proposed bill that seeks to disqualify leaders who spend more than 30 days in custody from holding positions such as Prime Minister or Chief Minister.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that when the issue was raised during a Union Cabinet meeting, Modi emphasised that the office of the Prime Minister should not receive any special treatment. “The Prime Minister is also a citizen and should not have any special protection,” Rijiju told news agencies.
