HYDERABAD: A man died after consuming a chemical along with a pill given as part of his treatment. Ganesh and his mother had come to the hospital for treatment due to a fever. After examining Ganesh, the doctor gave him a pill to take. His mother, who had gone in search of water, gave him a liquid from a container outside the laboratory, thinking it was water. The accident happened due to a misunderstanding by the mother, Ramalingamma.
Ganesh is the son of Sathyaprasad and Ramalingamma from Chinna Anumula village. They had brought their son, who had been bedridden with fever for two days, to a private hospital in Miryalaguda for treatment. The mother looked for water inside the hospital after giving her son the pill, but there was no drinking water in the dispenser. Seeing the formaldehyde chemical outside the lab nearby, she mistook it for drinking water, filled it in a bottle and gave it to her son.
Ganesh collapsed and died within seconds of drinking two sips. Relatives alleged serious negligence on the part of the hospital. The family alleged that the cause of death was the placement of dangerous chemicals outside the lab and the failure to ensure drinking water was a serious negligence. The police have registered a case on the complaint filed by the relatives alleging serious negligence on the part of the hospital.
