NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court ordered a police investigation after discovering an attempt to deceive it by submitting a fake order along with a civil case petition. The order came from a bench headed by Justice Abhay S Oka. The court has ordered to investigate whether Preeti Mishra, the advocate appearing for the petitioner, was involved in forging the order. The inquiry report should be submitted within two months.
The original and fake copy of the Supreme Court judgment was attached along with a petition filed by Manish Madanmohan Agrawal, a native of Maharashtra, in connection with a civil case. These were in the name of order passed by the same bench on 25 July 2022. The judges first became suspicious over whether there was a forgery of a court order in August, when they noticed two contradictory orders were annexed to a petition filed before the top court.
The Supreme Court Registrar found that the original order was dismissing the petition. The report was handed over to the court yesterday and an investigation was ordered. As the lawyer did not appear despite the court's request, it was suggested to investigate whether she was involved.
