DISPUR: The Assam Police has issued notices to prominent journalists Siddharth Varadarajan and Karan Thapar to appear for questioning in the sedition case. The Guwahati Crime Branch has issued notices to both of them to appear for questioning following a court order staying further proceedings in the case.
The two have been asked to appear before the Guwahati Crime Branch on August 22. The notice says that there is sufficient evidence to question both of them. Both are journalists of ‘The Wire’. Siddharth Varadarajan is the founder of Wire.
A case was registered against the two for an article published in ‘The Wire’. However, the Assam Police has not released any details about the case. Six sections, including sedition, have been charged against both of them. The notice also states that they will be arrested if they do not appear for questioning.
