Three of five grooms who had sex with bride tested HIV positive; grooms from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand

Meerut: Health department has expanded HIV testing in two states after the arrest of a woman who commits marriage fraud. Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested a woman in a scam gang who steals money and valuables after marriage and escapes. The police have arrested the fraud gang comprising six accused. The woman was conducting marriage scams in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

After the arrest of the accused, the woman was found to be infected with HIV during a medical examination. Sitaram Sharma, Superintendent of Muzaffarnagar Jail in UP informed that she was admitted for anti-retroviral treatment. After the woman was found to be infected with the disease, the police team investigated the places in both the states where the gang absconded from, after conducting marriages. The case was informed to the health department there.

The police are finding the men who were victims of their marriage fraud. The Uttarakhand health department said that three men who had sexual relations with the woman were found and they were diagnosed with HIV. The health department with the help of an NGO conducted a check-up on them in Udham Singh Nagar. The men who have been confirmed to be infected with the virus have been shifted to treatment centres.

The police said that the fraudster is a young woman in her 20s. The members of the marriage fraud gang include the woman's mother. The marriage will be conducted by the relatives of the bride. They used to conduct marriage fraud in different areas of both states without leaving any doubt to the victims. The woman said in her statement to the police that she was married to five men. Three of them are from Uttarakhand. The police is conducting a detailed investigation.
