NEW DELHI: A strong earthquake was reported in Delhi and surrounding areas Thursday morning. The earthquake that occurred at 9.04 am lasted only a few seconds. According to the data released by the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck Jhajjar in Haryana. Jhajjar is located about 60 km from Delhi.
Tremors were also felt in Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. People in various buildings in Delhi ran out in panic after the earthquake. No major damage was reported anywhere in the earthquake. The videos of the incident have already gone viral on social media.
The National Disaster Response Force has warned the public after the earthquake. Earthquakes have been reported in Delhi and surrounding areas before due to geological reasons. Delhi is located in seismic zone 4, which is highly prone to earthquakes. There have been reports of earthquakes measuring above 5.5 on the Richter scale since 1720.
