Truck driver, sharp-shooter and Malayali; More details about Jayan Sivanandan Nair

MUMBAI: Jayan Sivanandan Nair, a Malayali who shot and killed a man for purportedly stalking and harassing a young woman in Maharashtra, reportedly got his gun from Gujarat. It is reported that he took the gun from an open bag lying on the roadside while he was working as a truck driver. The police said Jayan is a sharpshooter. The police concluded that it was remotely impossible for a commoner to shoot with such accuracy.

The incident took place at 11:30 am on Thursday near Kai Sumantai Chavan Hindi Primary School in Kailash Nagar, Mumbra. The woman is a temporary employee of the school. Initial information received was that the woman and the youngsters got into an argument over cutting a banana tree in the school premises.

However, the three men had been following the woman for a long time. They also tried to sexually assault her. The woman had complained to Jayan about the harassment.

On the day of the incident, Jayan arrived at the scene after the young woman was stopped by the youngsters on the road. Jayan then opened fire on the youngsters. Akbar Abdul Sheikh, Akbar Hassan Sheikh, and Sameer Ahmed were shot. Akbar Abdul Sheikh died from a gunshot. Jayan was later taken into police custody. A case was also registered against the young woman.

Jayan testified that his family home is in Kollam and that he has been in Kolkata for a long time. It is also known that he is a former soldier. Jayan lost his parents at the age of nine. He was raised by the young woman's family, to whom he is indebted for life. Jayan said he had to open fire to protect his sister.
