Woman doctor ends life after rejection of US visa

HYDERABAD: A 38-year-old woman doctor committed suicide after her US visa was rejected. She has been identified as Rohini of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. She took the drastic step at her flat in Hyderabad. After she failed to respond, her maid informed Rohini’s family. She was found dead on her bed when the door was forcibly opened. Her body was handed over to her family after postmortem.

Police said that she may have consumed overdose of sleeping pills or may have injected medicine. In the suicide note recovered from her flat, she said that she was depressed after the US visa was rejected. Her mother Lakhsmi said that she wanted to go to US for work and after her visa was rejected, she was depressed. She was staying in Padma Rao Nagar. She wanted to specialize in internal medicine.

‘I had told my daughter to stay in India and practice. However, she believed that the US offered more opportunities including a higher income and fewer patients per day. The police have registered a case and an investigation has started.’
