KANPUR: A woman's headless, body was found lying on the national highway in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. The body was discovered at Gujaini, near Kanpur, on Wednesday at 6:15 am. Police suspect that the woman was raped and then murdered, before being dumped on the roadside. However, police have not received any leads related to the accused even after two days. Three teams have been assigned to the investigation.

The investigation teams are examining the CCTV footage from nearby areas. CCTV footage from a hospital near the national highway, three kilometres from the scene of the incident, showed a young woman walking by. This footage was captured some hours before the body was discovered. The police suspect that the woman seen in the footage could be the one who was murdered. The police said that the clothing worn by the woman in the footage looked similar to the piece of clothing found near the body.

Police are examining the footage further for more clarity. They are also trying to identify the woman by showing the CCTV footage to locals. The police stated that they are investigating whether the incident was an accident or a crime.

The body has been sent for post-mortem. No cases of missing women have been reported in the district. The forensic team has collected samples. Condemning the incident, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has urged for stringent punishment against the perpetrators.
